We're supposed to get a certain item from the store, but another item is on sale or looks better. This is what happened with King Saul. God gave him clear instructions, but Saul decided he knew better. Saul didn't follow God's word, so God took the kingdom from him. It's easy to modify God's instructions with what seems good to us, and then defend our actions. But God wants our hearts to obey Him.
